The Most Misunderstood Crypto Stock? Analyst Says Coinbase Is Just Getting Started

Coinbase Stock Hits 52-Week High as Analysts Call It the “Amazon of Crypto”

Coinbase (COIN) stock soared to its 52-week high on Wednesday after top analysts at Bernstein declared the crypto exchange a “one-stop Amazon” of digital financial services. The bullish call sent shares rising more than 3% to $355.37 at close — just below its all-time high of $357.39 from November 2021.

Coinbase’s Big Day: Analyst Hike Sparks 52-Week High

Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani and his team set Wall Street buzzing after raising Coinbase’s price target from $310 to a massive $510, citing the company’s dominant position in the crypto ecosystem. Their rating: Outperform.

“Coinbase is the most misunderstood company in our crypto coverage universe,” the Bernstein team wrote.

The analysts emphasized that Coinbase isn’t just a trading platform anymore. It’s evolving into a crypto financial services powerhouse, much like how Amazon expanded from books to, well, everything.

 What’s Fueling the Coinbase Surge

 Institutional Adoption and Regulation Tailwinds

Coinbase has been on fire in 2025, with its stock surging more than 40% since the U.S. Senate passed the GENIUS Act — legislation that sets up a national framework for stablecoins, digital assets backed by traditional currencies like the U.S. dollar.

This legal clarity is pushing more institutions into the space, and Coinbase is positioned to benefit at every level.

Dominating the Crypto Market

Coinbase is the only crypto company currently in the S&P 500 and operates:

  • The largest stablecoin business among crypto exchanges

  • Custody services for the majority of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs

  • A rapidly growing institutional Prime lending desk

  • The Base blockchain, a key infrastructure play

  • Over 200 integrations with banks, brokerages, fintechs, and payment companies

As Bernstein put it:

“COIN is emerging as the ‘Amazon of crypto financial services,’ offering far more than just simple trading.”

Coinbase CEO: “We’re Powering the Future of Finance”

Coinbase co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong echoed the analysts’ excitement on social media:

“Underappreciated: @coinbase is powering crypto integrations for ~200 banks, brokerages, fintechs, and payment companies.”

He also appeared at the State of Crypto Summit in New York on June 12, highlighting Coinbase’s expanding role in the broader digital finance landscape.

Bears Get Burned: Old Criticisms Fading Fast

Market Share Remains Strong Despite New Rivals

One of the key reasons for Bernstein’s bullishness is that the bear case on Coinbase hasn’t held up.

Despite fresh competition entering the scene, Coinbase’s market share hasn’t budged.

“Traditional brokerage competition is several months away from launch, which is an eternity on crypto timelines,” the Bernstein note said.

This suggests that even with big players like Fidelity and Schwab eyeing crypto, Coinbase is well ahead.

Other Crypto Stocks Are Also Booming

Coinbase isn’t the only crypto-linked company enjoying a rally in 2025.

  • Circle (CRCL), the company behind the USDC stablecoin, has seen its stock skyrocket over 600% since its June IPO.

  • Robinhood (HOOD), which also supports crypto trading, is up 126% year-to-date.

  • MicroStrategy (MSTR), the largest public holder of Bitcoin, is up 32% this year.

Analyst Says There’s Still Room to Run

According to Sean Farrell from Fundstrat, investors who missed Coinbase’s recent run may still have a chance:

“I still think there’s additional upside to Coinbase here, despite the pretty vicious rally we’ve seen.”

Is Coinbase the Amazon of Crypto

With analysts setting price targets at $510, government regulation finally catching up, and institutions pouring in, Coinbase seems to be hitting its stride.

It’s no longer “just” a crypto exchange. It’s becoming the foundation of U.S. digital finance — with services ranging from trading and custody to blockchain infrastructure and bank partnerships.

For investors bullish on crypto’s future, Coinbase may be the blue-chip name to watch.
